Longaberger JW Collection Bread & Milk Basket Set 1987. The Bread & Milk Basket was created to carry bottles of milk and loaves of bread which were consumed in large quantities in the Longaberger household, with 12 children. This basket form later became the Magazine Basket, which is handy for so many things. It can hold craft supplies, magazines, and more. This Bread & Milk Basket is part of the collection considered by many to be Longaberger’s premiere group of collectible baskets. The JW Longaberger Collection Series ran from 1983 through 1994 and honored JW by using 12 basket forms he had created, adding attractive navy trim strips and gold metal tags. This Bread & Milk Basket is only the fifth in the collection. It has pretty dark navy accent weaves for its age and is in good condition. There are light white marks on the top band in back, as though the basket has brushed up against something. I tried to show these in photos. They are not distracting and have already been considered in the low price of this beautiful set. The metal tag states: Longaberger J. Collection 1987 Edition BREAD & MILK BASKET. Classic Plaid fabric is a nice heavy woven plaid of navy and cream with narrow dark red accents. The stiffly-pleated self-fabric trim needs the plastic protector over it to stand up and look its best. The liner and protector are in good briefly-displayed condition. I usually take basket sets apart for photos and mailing, but I was scared to take out this protector, a tight fit with the basket’s stationary handle. I was able to peer down inside and see that the inside is clean and that the fabric liner’s zip bag is in the bottom of the basket. You can see from the photo of the outside of the basket bottom that it is in great shape. No plastic protectors or fabric liners were available in 1988, but when this plaid was offered as a liner for later JW Baskets, it was offered for the Magazine Basket, which is the same size as the JW Bread & Milk Basket. The JW Bread & Milk Basket is 16″ l by 8″ w by 11 h. I will be listing other JW Collection Baskets including the Corn Basket in the coming days.
