The Small Wash Day Basket won hearts when it debuted on the front of the Spring 2003 Wish List in all its patriotic glory, with the plastic protector filled with ice and small glass bottled drinks. How perfect for patriotic celebrations and everyday work! Or course, it is the perfect size for laundry, too, and might even make folding fun. Wouldn’t a group of patriotic baskets proclaim that you’re Proudly American for your summer celebrations or election-season events? With its extra-strong outside wooden reinforcements attached to the leather loop ears and wooden reinforcements inside the bottom, this basket can help with heavy work. It’s also beautiful with a load of quilts or throws. Navy upsplints and tack strip and bold red shoestring weave creating a plaid weave pattern and special star-shaped tack covers set the Proudly American Collection apart from others. The stitched leather loop ears take up less space than wooden handles and make this basket even easier to use in all sorts of spaces. This basket is gently used and has a few scuff marks but no chipped splints. Please use the zoom feature on all photos to see these minor problems: a few small dark marks on the front and one side, a few dark marks and a light mark on back, and several black marks on the bottom, as though it has been slid on a painted black surface. I included photos of each side. These issues don’t affect the usefulness of this strong basket and have been considered in the low price of this set. Special stand-up Proudly American fabric Liners featured sleek grosgrain ribbon trim to add a touch of color but not take away from the baskets. The Liner fabric is Paprika red with striped trim. The Liner requires the plastic Protector to hold it upright and look its best. Both are in good condition. The plastic Protector has some darkening where the copper rivets hold the leather handles, which is typical, and the edge is rough in one place. Set includes Proudly American Small Wash Day. Fabric liner, and plastic protector, all in good gently-used condition. The Small Wash Day Basket measures 16 1/4″ l by 15 3/4″ w by 8 1/2 h. Longaberger’s All-American Collection began in 1987 and evolved greatly as it continued through the early 2000s, always retaining red and blue accent weaves. The Longaberger Bentley Collection Guide included the 2002 Block Party and Casserole Baskets, which introduced the special red and blue plaid weave and star tack covers, as part of the All-American Collection, but then listed.
