In this case: The Collectors Club Southwest Basket is an homage to the basket style that evolved from the connections built between Native Americans and European cultures, as they shared weave styles and decorative touches (from the basket’s box). Inspired by American Indian culture, the Southwest Basket’s “lightning bolt accents” are striking in basket stain colors of Warm Gray and Rich Brown over Soft Gray upsplints. Two Warm Gray handles are attached with copper rivets. Warm Gray was a rarely-used stain color, and this weave style was also unusual. Longaberger’s Collectors Club showcased American craftspeople and their lifestyles. Membership in the Club accessed exclusive baskets such as this one that were not available to the general public.
